Compress a video for Discord (10 MB)
Without Nitro, Discord will not take files over 10 MB. Here your clip goes under that, without passing through any website.
You get an MP4 (H.264) that plays everywhere. Sound is copied untouched; location and other data are removed.
Files never leave your device
How to do it
- Choose the clip (MP4 or MOV). 10 MB is already selected.
- Press "Compress video" and wait for the bar to finish.
- Download the MP4 and drop it into Discord.
Tips
- A 30-second clip at 30 fps fits in 10 MB at 720p; a one-minute clip, at about 540p.
- Sound does not matter? Remove it and the picture looks better.
- Trim what you do not need first: every second less leaves more quality for the rest.
Questions
Why 10 MB?
It is Discord's upload limit for accounts without Nitro. 10 MB counts as 10,000,000 bytes here, a little under the limit, so Discord accepts it.
What if I have Nitro?
Pick 50 MB or "Other" and type your limit.
Does it work for OBS or ShadowPlay clips?
Yes, if they are normal MP4 or MOV files. MKV and OBS fragmented MP4 are not supported yet: in OBS, "Remux recordings" turns them into a normal MP4 in seconds.
Is the clip uploaded anywhere?
No. It is compressed in your browser and stays on your device until you upload it to Discord.
